I think it's "tow", not "toe".  Merely guessing though.  It's another one of those "I've only heard it, not seen it" things.

And I was really expecting some sort of Minesweeper reference once I started seeing all those multi-coloured Xs!

You were right.  It was spelled rite, just the wrong word was all.
